Jack Then and Now

Jack is rapidly approaching his sixth birthday.  I. just. can’t. believe it.    For some reason him turning six is hitting much more than any other birthday I can remember.  He’s so big, growing not only physically but emotionally and intellectually as well.  And, there are moments when I look at him and get a glimpse of him as a young man.

So, when I saw him sitting in J’s chair the other night drawing on his doodle pad before bed.

I was immediately reminded of this

Snow Day Recap

Yesterday was our first snow day.  Today, we’re on number two.

Here’s a peek at what we did.

I made an egg casserole, coffee cake and hot chocolate for breakfast.

We built a snow man and used accessories from the snowman kit we got for Christmas from friends in Texas.  (I think they’re a bit jealous of our winters!)

We played in the snow.

J bundled up in his military issued parka.

It’s quite the look, isn’t it?

I pulled tomato sauce from the freezer for dinner.

Colorado sure does have funny seasons.

We’re now up to at least 12, if not 14 inches since Tuesday evening and it’s still snowing.  It may be a long winter.

Snow Day

Today we woke up to a winter wonderland, in October.  While there’s only a couple of inches on the ground now, we’re expecting heavy snow and wind later today.

While I’m looking forward to a hang out day, the kids are disappointed that they don’t have school.

I know that will quickly change.

So, now I find myself brainstorming a day full of activities.

One of my first stops was The Crafty Crow. This is a one-stop shop for great ideas found all over the web. I’m planning on also looking through the archives to start my list for Thanksgiving and Christmas. I need some new ideas for advent.

There are so many other great sites for ideas.  A couple of my favorites are:
The Artful Parent

Make and Takes

Kids Craft Weekly

Happy Wednesday!

A Great Friday

I'm still shooting From Where I Stand but it seems to be working better when I post them in a group.  So, there' s more coming soon.
For now, I have some images from yesterday.  It was one of those days that just seemed perfect.  I've been a bit reflective lately as Jack approaches his sixth birthday.  For some reason this one is hitting me.  Hard.
So, here's yesterday.  It was pretty great.
The sunrise.

Sweet Connor.

The sun rising on a birds' nest.  Noticing nests that are usually hidden by leaves has been very exiting around here of late.

We went to the Natural Area down the road and checked nature out.

Our Friday tradition is homemade pizza and a movie.  In the fall, I love popcorn and candy corn.  Yum!

I could hardly keep my eyes open (Sweet C has been having a tough time at night).    At 7:15 J told me to go to bed.  I did.  This sunset greeted me from our room.

Like I said, a great day.
