Six

Sweet Jack turned six yesterday.  Where has the time gone?

We took cupcakes to school on Friday.  I help in his class every other Friday and was able to be there while they sang to him.  One great thing that his teacher, Mrs. W,  does is have the children say what they like or appreciate about the birthday child.  It was so neat to hear his classmates say that he is kind, a good friend, etc.

This year, instead of the usual party, we went on a mini-vacation to Denver.  We stayed in a hotel, went swimming, went out to dinner and stayed up (too) late watching a movie.  Great Grandpa even came up from Colorado Springs to join us for dinner.

Saturday we had a big breakfast and headed to the Museum of Nature and Science.  What a great museum!  We spent a few hours there, grabbed some lunch and headed home.  The day was rounded out with great gifts, burritos for dinner and ice cream cake.

Oh, and many little pieces entered our lives yesterday.  Fun!

Tradition

Any one that has known me for any length of time knows that I love traditions.  They don’t have to be grand for me to love them.  Some of my favorites:
Playing Christmas music while enjoyin dessert on Thanksgiving

Celebrating the 1st Day of School with sundaes

Decorating for Christmas on the Friday after Thanksgiving

Hiding Easter baskets

New PJs on Christmas Eve

and many many more.

Of course, it’s easy to have traditions that celebrate holidays.  But, one of my absolute favorites is Friday pizza and movie night.  We do this almost every week.  And, I love it!

We use this recipe from Wondertime (oh, how I miss thee).  It’s so easy and delicious.  We offer lots of topping choices and each make our own.  So good and such fun!

End of an Era

It seems that after nearly 6 years we have reached the end of an era.

Most days, the children are no longer taking naps.  I would say that the younger two probably still could use them but naptime was turning into such a battle full of frustration.

So, we’re done.

It’s taking a bit of an adjustment for me as I’ve been used to having a good two hours in the middle of the day to do as I please.  But, we’re getting there.    Bed time has been moved up even earlier which is nice.

And I do consider myself lucky to have made it this long.

The Mountain I Must Climb

Mountain

My goal today is to climb this mountain.  And the smaller one that’s already in the laundry room.

Between drop-off and pick-up at two schools, my volunteering at said schools and trying to do fun things with Connor while the other two are at school the housework is getting neglected.

It drives me crazy.  So, today I’m going to conquer this fabric mountain.  And the crumbs on the floor.

Hopefully, that will leave the weekend free for fun instead of work.
